The Foundation of a Modern Home
Nothing transforms the scale and flow of a home quite like continuous, high-end flooring. Today’s luxury design demands expansive surfaces—massive porcelain tiles that minimize grout lines, and ultra-wide hardwood planks that bring warmth and grandeur to open floor plans.
However, these premium materials are incredibly unforgiving. Installing large-format tile or wide-plank flooring requires a perfectly flat subfloor and highly specialized installation techniques. At Charmet Tile, we provide expert installation for Tile, Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), and Hardwood. We combine master craftsmanship with subfloor flattening to deliver flawless, squeak-free, and perfectly flush surfaces across your entire home.

Expansive Surfaces for Modern Living
We specialize in the meticulous layout and installation of the industry’s most sought-after flooring materials:
-
Large-Format Porcelain & Natural Stone: We expertly handle and install massive tiles (24×48, 48×48, and beyond). By utilizing specialized mortar systems and leveling clips, we ensure a perfectly flush surface (zero lippage) with ultra-thin grout joints for a sleek, monolithic look.
-
Premium Engineered Hardwood: For timeless warmth and elegance, we install wide-plank European oak and premium engineered hardwood. We carefully manage moisture barriers and acoustics to ensure your investment performs beautifully for decades.
-
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP): The ultimate solution for active coastal homes. Premium LVP provides the authentic look and texture of natural wood but is 100% waterproof and highly scratch-resistant. It is the perfect, worry-free surface for homes with pets, children, and pool access.

Why Preparation is Everything
The secret to a breathtaking floor is what happens before the first tile or plank is laid. Standard contractors often skip vital prep work, leading to cracked tiles, hollow spots, and squeaky floorboards. At Charmet Tile, we engineer your floor from the concrete slab up.
-
Subfloor Flattening: Large-format tiles and wide planks cannot bend to accommodate a wavy concrete foundation. We utilize concrete grinding and high-performance self-leveling underlayments to create a flat substrate.
-
Anti-Fracture & Uncoupling Membranes: To protect your large-format stone and tile from the natural shifting and settling of your home, we install premium uncoupling membranes (like Schluter-DITRA) that neutralize stress and prevent cracks from transferring to the surface.
-
Seamless Transitions: We meticulously plan our subfloor heights to ensure your new hardwood or tile meets adjacent rooms, carpets, or exterior patio stones perfectly flush, eliminating the need for bulky, unsightly transition strips.
Large Format & Plank Flooring FAQs
Navigating a custom flooring project can naturally bring up a lot of questions, especially when it comes to timelines, material selection, and what to expect during the installation process. We believe in complete transparency and want to ensure you feel confident and informed every step of the way. If you have a specific question about your project that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team directly.
In the flooring industry, any tile with at least one edge measuring 15 inches or longer is considered large-format. Today, 24×48 inches and 36×36 inches are incredibly popular for main living areas. Because of their size, they require specialized mortars and highly skilled installers to prevent “lippage” (where one edge of a tile sits higher than the adjacent tile).
Yes. Installing tile or hardwood over radiant heat systems requires specific technical knowledge. We use specialized uncoupling membranes and flexible thin-sets designed to absorb the thermal expansion and contraction of the heated floor, ensuring your luxury surfaces never crack or warp.
This depends on the scale of the project. For whole-home main-floor replacements, it is often much faster and more efficient if the home is unoccupied. However, we have extensive experience in occupied homes. If you remain in the home, we employ strict, clean, dust-controlled jobsite practices and work in phased sections to minimize disruption to your daily life.
While Luxury Vinyl Plank is highly durable, it is also somewhat pliable. If installed over a wavy or uneven concrete slab, the LVP will conform to those dips over time. This causes the locking mechanisms between the planks to stress and eventually break, leading to separation and floor failure. We ensure the subfloor is flat before installing any plank flooring.
